FAQs

What should I bring to my tax appointment?

Coming to your tax appointment fully prepared with all required documents helps ensure the process goes smoothly and quickly!  Be sure to gather and/or fill out all documents several days in advance of your appointment whenever possible.  Here’s what you need to bring (please keep in mind that some items won’t be applicable for your particular tax preparation):

  • Social Security Card
  • Driver’s License
  • Dependents’ Social Security numbers and dates of birth
  • Proof of Residence for Dependents (eg. school records)
  • Proof of Health Insurance
  • Wage Statements (W-2)
  • Last year’s return (if available)
  • Rhodes-Murphy Income & Deduction Checklist

Rhodes-Murphy has provided an easy-to-use Income & Deduction checklist available in the link above, which will give your Rhodes-Murphy tax professional quick reference to your deductions.  By filling out this form and bringing it to your appointment you will expedite the time it takes to prepare your taxes.

How does all of this work?

We prepare your tax return. You sign your electronic tax return by either using your assigned PIN for e-file for a completely paperless return, or by signing Form 8453. After you sign the return using your assigned PIN or Form 8453, we submit the return to the IRS. Once received at the IRS, the return is automatically checked by computers for errors and missing information. If it cannot be processed, it is sent back to us to clarify any necessary information. Within 48 hours of electronically sending your return to IRS, the IRS sends an acknowledgment to RHODES-MURPHY stating the return is accepted for processing. This is your proof of filing and assurance that the IRS has your return information.

If due a refund, you can expect to receive it in approximately three to four weeks from the acknowledgment date – even faster with Direct Deposit (half the time as when filed on paper). If you owe taxes, we have options to assist you as well. As the client, you must pay the preparation fees up-front, before the return can be e-filed. IRS e-file returns are virtually error-proof with an error rate of less than one percent. IRS e-file greatly reduces the chance that you will get an error letter from the IRS.

What about my state return?

RHODES-MURPHY participates in the Federal/State e-file program for both Georgia, South Carolina, and most other states.
